WBJEEB JECA for MCA Admission

JECA is the Common Entrance Examination conducted by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board (WBJEEB). On the basis of score in JECA seats are offered in Master of Computer Application (MCA) course in various institutions in West Bengal.

JECA Seat Matrix

The number of seats available will be declared by the JECA Member  Institutions in due course of time. Also, same will be published in official website of WBJEEB before start of counselling.
Reservation of Seats for SC/ST/OBC-A/OBC-B/PwD (earlier Physically Handicapped) category of students as per Govt. of India norms.
Reservation will be available for candidates with 40% to 70% disabilities of following types subject to the condition that the candidate is capable of carrying out all activities related to theory and practical work as applicable to the courses without any special concession and exemption. The same will be verified by the counseling authority and their decision will be final.
i. Locomotor disability in upper limb
ii. Locomotor disability in lower limb
iii. Visual Impairment
iv. Hearing impairment
v. Speech and language disability

JECA Eligibility and Academic Qualification Criteria

Nationality: The candidate must be a citizen of India.
Educational Qualification:
i.The institutions in West Bengal that offer the three years MCA course follows any one of the following four modules of eligibility criteria given below.

Module 1: Candidates must have successfully completed their 3 year Bachelor degree programs from UGC recognised University scoring a minimum of 60% marks in Honours/Aggregate (45% for SC/ST/OBCA/OBC-B/PwD candidates) along with 60% marks in Mathematics at the Bachelor’s level together with at least 60% marks in Secondary and Higher Secondary or equivalent examination with at least 60% in Mathematics in both Secondary or equivalent and Higher Secondary or equivalent examinations from recognised Boards.
Candidates, who are in their final year of bachelor degree and are due to appear in the current year will have to submit their mark sheet or grade card within 3 months from the commencement of the 1st semester classes.

Module 2: Candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree of minimum 3-years duration except BBA with Mathematics at 10+2 level or graduate level recognized by UGC and/or AICTE recognized (as the case may be). They should score a minimum of 50% marks (45% marks for SC/ST/OBC-A/OBC-B candidates) in their graduation level.

Module 3: Candidates should have successfully completed their graduate or other equivalent degree under (10+2+3) pattern in any discipline from a UGC recognized University/Institute or AICTE recognized B.E./B.Tech/BCA of a University/Institute. They must have studied Mathematics as one of the subjects at each level of education and secure a minimum of 60% marks (45% marks for SC/ST/OBCA/OBC-B candidates) at each level education.

Module 4: Candidates should have successfully completed their 3 year B. Sc. Hons.degree from a UGC recognised university scoring a minimum of 60% marks in Honours (55% for SC/ST candidates). They should have studied Mathematics as one of the subjects in graduation together with at least 60% marks in 10th level and (10+2)th level with at least 60% in Mathematics in both 10th and (10+2)th level from a recognised Board.

JECA of Examination Syllabus

1. Mathematics

i. Analytical Geometry : Cartesian and polar coordinate; Straight line; Circle;Ellipse; Parabola; Hyperbola; Translation & Rotation of axes.
ii. Algebra : Complex number, De Moiver’s theorem, Solution of linearequations, Determinants, Matrices, Summation of signal series, Addition ofvectors, Scalar and Vector products, Inequation, Sets and elements, Universal set, Empty set, Subsets, Venn diagram, Union and intersection of sets,Complements, Algebra of sets, Finite sets, Class of sets, Partitions, Crossproduct, Group, Ring and Field.
iii. Calculus: Limit, Continuity, Differentiation; Maxima & minima; Taylor &Maclaruin’s Series: Definite and indefinite integrals, First and second orderdifferential equation; Functions of several variables; Partial differentiation.
iv. Probability & Statistics : Permutation, Combination; Probability;Probability distribution; Mean; Median; Mode; Standard Deviation;Correlation coefficient.

2. Aptitude Test

  • Reasoning
  • Problem Solving
  • Quantitative Comparison
  • Discrete Quantitative Analysis
  • Data interpretation.

JECA Pattern of Question Papers

The question paper of JECA will comprise of two papers namely
a) Mathematics and
b) Aptitude.

All questionswill be of Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) type, with four answer options. Thequestions will be in English language only.

Number of questions, full Marks and time allotted are as follows:

Mathematics
  • No. of questions: 100
  • Full marks: 100
  • Duration: 2 hrs

Aptitude
  • No. of questions: 50
  • Full marks: 50
  • Duration: 1 hr

JECA Scoring Methodology

i) All questions will have four answer options each
ii) Only one out of four options is correct
ii) Correct response carries 2 mark each
iv) -1/2 (25% negative) marks will be deducted for each incorrect response
v) For any combination of response with more than one option, the said answer will be treated as incorrect and will yield -1/2 (25% negative) marks
vi) No marks will be deducted for questions not attempted.

JECA Ranking Methodology and publication of Merit Lists

Based on the candidates’ score in the entrance tests, WBJEEB will publish a merit rank list. The List shall be in the name and style of ‘GMR’ (General Merit Rank). The ranking in the merit list shall be done in the descending order of marks scored in the entrance test. There will be separate reserved category ranks viz. SC-Rank, ST-Rank, OBC-A-Rank, OBC-B-Rank, PwD-Rank will be published for respective category of students. The ‘GMR’ shall only be applicable for sequencing the counselling and seat allotment. Category ranks are prepared only for sequencing the deserving candidates within the respective category.

JECA Tie–breaking Methodology:

In case of tie between the score of two candidates, the candidate obtaining less negative score will have better rank. However, if tie exists still thereafter, all such candidates will be awarded the same rank and will be considered for counselling and admission with bunching effect.

JECA Tie–breaking Methodology in Merit Rank:

i. Less negative marks in Mathematics & Aptitude Test taken together.
ii. More positive marks in Mathematics.
iii. More positive marks in Aptitude Test.
iv. Less negative marks in Mathematics.
v. Less negative marks in Aptitude Test.
vi.However, if tie of marks still exists thereafter, same will be broken by the date of birth (DOB) ofthe concerned candidates; the older candidate will be given preference overthe younger one.

JECA Admit Card

Candidates can generate their admit cards on the notified date from the official website and take a print. Candidate are required to carry a printed hard copy of the admit card to the examination centre.

JECA Evaluation and Declaration of Result

a) Candidates will receive the final results published in the form of Rank Cards, which will contain all relevant ranks and total score. JECA Result will be available via portal www.result.shiksha
b) Candidates will be able to view and download their rank card by logging in with login id password.

The application procedure for JECA is completely online. Eligible candidates required to fill and submit online application using WBJEEB Official Form Submission facility.
