West Bengal State University

West Bengal State University is a result of a long standing need for a state university in the region. It was established in 2008 at Barasat, North 24 Parganas. On 26 May 2008, there were 63 colleges formerly affiliated with the University of Calcutta. 

• To Create a flow of quality human resource capable of meeting scientific , technological and social challenges of today and tomorrow.
• To introduce integrated courses up to Ph D level.
• To widen access to Higher Education through introduction of new courses in Professional studies.
• To encourage dissemination of knowledge with a view to ensuring better job opportunities for the students.
• To provide vocational training and programmes to Madhyamik passed students.
• To promote cluster concept among affiliated colleges.
• To promote convergence of Conventional & Open/Distance education.

Ph. D. and/or M. Phil. Courses conducted by Departments of Humanities, Social Sciences, Commerce and Management and Sciencesin accordance with the UGC model curriculum since 2011.The University has had research collaborations with research institutes such as Bose Institute, Indian Institute of Chemical Biology (IICB), Indian Association for the Cultivation of Sciences (IACS), Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics (SINP), Calcutta, Jadavpur, Vidyasagar, Tripura and other Universities, National Centre for Cell Science (NCCS), Pune, IUCA, and many more. Collaborations with different foreign university and institutes also exist with the different departments of WBSU. The University has filed for two patents in collaboration with Bose Institute, Kolkata.

The Training and Placement Cell provides various training, especially on computer related subjects from 2009 by the Department of Computer Science and Electronics. Later on, from 2011, the cell took initiative for placement and proving a bridge between the students and private sectors for possible employability. The University has signed MOUs with couple of private organizations. The cell is structuring the various programs and expanding its activities. Some of the prominent companies that visited the campus for possible recruitment are TCS, Larsen & Toubro, Srei Sahaj e-Village Ltd., Tatwa & Limtex, Nicco Ventures, SRF Ltd, Tech Mahindra, Air Cell etc.
