IIM Calcutta

The Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIMC) was established as the first national institute for Post-Graduate studies and Research in Management by the Government of India in November 1961. It was established in collaboration with Alfred P. Sloan School of Management (MIT), the Government of West Bengal, The Ford Foundation and Indian industry. During its initial years, several prominent faculty formed part of its nucleus, including Jagdish Sheth, J. K. Sengupta, among others.

Over the years, IIMC has grown into a mature institution with global reputation, imparting high quality management education. It has been playing a pioneering role in professionalizing Indian management through its Post Graduate and Doctoral level programs, Executive Training Programs, Research and Consulting Activities.

Academic Programs in IIM Calcutta

Doctoral
It is a full-time doctoral programme introduced in 1971, that offers students opportunities for advanced studies and research in different specializations related to Management Science. The Programme aims to prepare students for careers in teaching and research in management studies and in related disciplines, and for careers in the government, in industry, and in other organizations that require advanced analytical and research capabilities.

An applicant can apply to at most two areas of specialization. (S)he needs to have taken the Common Admission Test (CAT). He or she can also take GMAT / GRE / GATE / UGC-JRF tests.

Post Graduate Diploma in Management
This two year residential Program is designed to train students to become excellent general managers and high-level-decision-makers with broad strategic vision to help students develop a global view and respond effectively to changes in the economic, technological, cultural and political environments. Specific skills in areas such as accounting, finance, marketing, operations, and management lie at the heart of the course.Admission involves two stage process:

Candidates will be short listed based on CAT score, past academic performance, and other criteria.

Stage I: Minimum CAT percentile to be considered for PI.

Stage II: Short-listing for PI and WAT process.

Post Graduate Programme for Executives
PGPEX (Post Graduate Programme for Executives) is IIM Calcutta's is a one Year Full Time Residential Programme meant for Executives with more than five years of professional experience. It provides mid-career professionals the ideal platform to augment their existing skill sets as they endeavour to armour themselves for senior and top management roles in the industry.

Post Graduate Programme for Executives for Visionary  Leadership in Manufacturing
PGPEX-VLM is a unique program that fulfills the current industry’s growing demand for techno-managerial leaders who shape the neo-industrial revolution.  VLMP was developed by the National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council in collaboration with Ministry of HRD, IITs, IIMs and CII as a flagship program to develop Leaders in Manufacturing under the Indo-Japan Cooperation Agreement, signed by the then Prime Minister of India and the then Prime Minister of Japan, in December 2006. 

Short listed candidates are called for a written test consisting of three sections – Verbal Ability, Quantitative Ability and Engineering Ability. The written test is conducted at one or more centers.

Candidates shortlisted after the written test are called for Personal Interview (PI) at the host institute.

Selection will be based on academic records, work experience, and performance in Aptitude Test and PI.

Post Graduate Diploma in Business Analytics (PGDBA)
With the aim to nurture emerging management professionals, the Post Graduate Diploma in Business Analytics (PGDBA) is jointly offered by IIM Calcutta, IIT Kharagpur, and ISI Kolkata. PGDBA is a two year full time residential diploma programme aimed at creating business analytics professionals employable by leading Indian and foreign firms.

A candidate must hold a graduate/post graduate degree ith a Minimum of 60% marks or CGPA 6.5 on a 10-point scale in the Qualifying Degree (i.e. B. Tech./ B.E./ M.Sc./ M.Com or equivalent).Written Test, Personal interview (PI), Class X and XII marks and work experience.

Executive Education
IIM Calcutta offers executive education in the following areas:

Management Development Programmes (MDPs): Comprehensively structured classroom sessions that typically span from 3 days to 3 weeks, and are designed to address specific corporate training objectives.

Customized Training Programmes – Also called In-Company programmes, these are tailor-made modules, created around specific mandates from discerning corporate clients.

Long Duration Programmes (LDPs): Programmes that are conducted on the distance learning format and are disseminated through satellite-based learning platforms, interspersed with brief in-campus sessions.

Admission in IIM Calcutta

There are 2 stages that a candidate goes through before getting selected for IIM-Calcutta PGDM Programme.

The first stage is appearing for the Common Admission Test (CAT) conducted by the IIMs (GMAT for the international candidates). For international candidates, percentile scored in GMAT will be equated to the CAT score for the same percentile.

On clearing the required cut-offs and the composite score, a candidate is called for the Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI).
