Kalyani University

The University of Kalyani or Kalyani University was established in November 1960 with the faculties of Arts, Science, Education, and Agriculture. But in 1975, the University was bifurcated and its Faculty of Agriculture developed into a full-fledged agricultural university, named as Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya, in Mohanpur campus. 

As a result, Kalyani University was left with only 12 teaching departments under the faculties of Arts and Science. Four new departments were established by the end of 1970s, namely History, Political Science, and Commerce under the Faculty of Arts, which was later converted to Faculty of Arts and Commerce, and Bio-chemistry & Bio-physics under the Faculty of Science. 

In the 1980s, the Department of Environmental Science (under Faculty of Science), and the Department of Modern Languages (under Faculty of Arts & Commerce) were started. Three more departments were introduced in 1990s, namely, Folklore, Library Information Science (Faculty of Arts & Commerce) and Computer Science (Faculty of Science). the Faculty of Engineering, Technology, and Management, with the departments of Business Administration, Computer Science & Engineering, and Rural Administration & Management. During the last five years, a new Faculty of Music and Fine Arts consisting of the Department of Visual Arts, one new Department in the Faculty of Engineering viz Department of Engineering and Technology Studies, one in the Faculty of Science (Department of Environment and Ecology), and four in the Faculty of Arts and Commerce (Departments of Philosophy, Sanskrit, Hindi, Rural Development Studies) have been established.

Undergraduate Admission in Kalyani University

A candidate who has passed 10 plus 2 from the state board or any other recognised board will be admitted to the first semester of three-year(Six Semester) B.A./ B.Sc./ B.Com.(Honours & Programme/General) Courses of Studies 

A candidate taking up Honours Course in a subject requires the following eligibility:

(I) A minimum of 45% marks in aggregate and 55% marks in the subject or
related subject at the previous qualifying examination.
or
(II) 50% marks in aggregate and 45% marks in the subject or related subject at
the previous qualifying examination.
 or
(III) 55% marks in aggregate when the candidate has not studied the subject or
any related subject in his /her previous qualifying examination 

For the B.A. & B.Sc. (Honours & Programme/General) Course of Studies a candidate is required to choose his/her Honours and Generic Elective subjects from Groups I to VIII below by taking not more than one
subject from any of the below mentioned groups: 

Gr. I: Physics, Zoology, Education, Film Studies, Physical Education.
Gr. II: Mathematics, History.
Gr. III: Arabic, Chemistry, Defense Studies, Sanskrit, Sociology.
Gr. IV: Botany, Economics, Food and Nutrition.
Gr. V: Environmental Science, Political Science.
Gr. VI Gr. VI: Geography, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Molecular Biology &
Biotechnology, Media Studies, Philosophy.
Gr. VII: Physiology, Statistics, English.
Gr. VIII : Computer Science, Bengali, Hindi, Urdu

Postgraduate Admission in Kalyani University

Candidates with a three years Undergraduate Honours Degree from any UGC recognized University following the 10+2+3 system are eligible for admission.

Affiliated Colleges

This university has 44 affiliated colleges (18 in Nadia, 25 in Murshidabad and 1 in North 24 Parganas). These colleges are independent from the university but they follow the course curriculum of the university. 

Central Library of Kalyani University

Central Library was established to cater to the academic and research needs of the Teachers, Research Scholars, the Students and other staff members. The Central Library serves as the hub of academic activities for students,and  scholars in pursuit of academic excellence. Central Library provides books, journals as well as current information on various topics to fulfill the needs of the University Community.
